Music Therapy with Children and Young People
Music therapy is an established intervention that has supported children individually and in groups for many decades. As a playful, trusting relationship is formed through shared music making, a child’s unique creative self can be expressed. This can lead to significant improvements in self-esteem, communication skills and emotional regulation.
Music Therapy is accessible to all children regardless of physical or verbal ability, encouraging creativity, communication and self-expression. I have extensive experience supporting children struggling with:
Social and Communication disorders
Autistic Spectrum Condition
Global Developmental Delay
Attachment Issues
Children experiencing family breakdown
Selective Mutism
Anger and Aggression
Bereavement
I use a wide range of therapeutic techniques in addition to active music-making such as songwriting and the use of music technology for composition, applied puppetry and play therapy. My approach draws upon Psychodynamic and Attachment theories and insights from Developmental Psychology
